Syston is situated in the Borough of Charnwood in Leicestershire.
There has been a parish or town council in Syston since 1894 and there are presently 12714 persons on the electoral roll and a total population of around 16,500.
The Town Council currently has 15 members with one vacancy and an annual budget of around £460,000. The expenditure is funded by the annual precept (currently £439,932) and from fees from users of the Community Centre, Cemetery, Parks, Allotments, Playing Fields, plus contributions from various grant.
The Council employs a staff of thirteen, seven of whom are full time.
The Council's estate includes a modern Community Centre, five parks, one set of sports fields, a skate park, the Millennium bridge and an award winning cemetery on Barkby Road.
The Town Council is responsible for floral displays in the town centre. These are planned and maintained by the groundsatff and with sponsorship from local companies and traders.
Syston Town council has entered the "East Midlands in Bloom" competition each year since 1997 and has won awards on several occasions including Silver Guilt in 2018.
The Town Council office within the Community Centre is open to the public from 9.00am to 4.30pm from Monday to Friday each week.
All council meetings are held at the Community Centre on Tuesday evenings.
